The Food Diary- Custard Apple (My childhood story)

So, here comes the Fall/Autumn season with beautiful colours, lovely weather and most importantly with a basket of fresh CUSTARD APPLES known as 'Sitaphal' in Hindi and 'ଆ଀' in Odia. One of my favourite fruits.❤️
This is a tropical fruit where the tree flowers between April-May and bears fruit between August --November.😍

I vividly remember that, in my childhood days I always used to look upto the tree in my Grandma's (Aai in odia) backyard wondering when will it start flowering and when will the heart-shaped fruits with light greenish quilted skin outside and mellow, creamy, custard like flesh inside come up, so that I could relish them with all my eagerness.
Back in those days my Grandpa(Aja in odia) had taught me that if any of the plucked custard apple has not ripened, then there's a simple trick to get it done soon. Keep the unripened ones deep inside a rice sack containing rice grains. Within 1-2 days sweet fragrance would start coming out filling the entire house. That indicated the fruits were ready to pamper our palate. Till now I practice the same trick and wait for the fruit with the same keenness.❤️😍

ENDURI PITHA/HALDIPATRA PITHA😊 Ohhh!! my my the smell of  #haldipatra (haldi ke patte/turmeric leaves) used early in the morning to make this amazingly delicious "pitha" not only makes the entire house aromatic but also it is extraordinarily evocative to all the five senses. . This is the most awaited Odia festival celebrated in every Odia household honoring the eldest child of the family. The celebration falls after the eighth day of Kartik Purnima in the month of Margasira according to Odia calendar. .
